Zoey

Ruby Cavalier King Charles Spaniel

born 9-19-2003

Zoey became a registered therapy dog and followed in Emily's footsteps at the age of 16 months.  Zoey enjoys visiting the patients at Edward Hospital since she is a real love-bug and enjoys being petted and cuddling up to the patients on their beds. Read below and find out how Zoey can be an inspiration to patients who are about to or have undergone open heart surgery.

If you would like to make a donation to Zoey’s therapy program you may either shop at ZOEY’S STORE or download an enclosure donation form to make a DIRECT DONATION.

Zoey says - whew! I'm glad that is over!

Zoey had PDA (Patent Ductus Arteriosis) open heart surgery on 12/17/03. She has internal stitches. The small hole was for an oxygen tube to be inserted to keep her lung inflated while they tied off the pulmonary artery. The shaved patch on her rear was for the epidural they gave her for pain. All four of the bottoms of her feet were shaved for the electrode hookups for monitoring. On her other side they shaved a section for the ultrasound to be attached during the surgery. Her front legs were also shaved for the IV's.

Zoey was honored with her own Edward Heart Pillow during her recovery!  All open heart surgery patients at Edward receive this pillow that is hand made by hospital volunteers.
